For most people changing phone numbers when you move into a new home is a nuisance. For single mother, Beatrice Dimvula it's a dream come true. One of the highlights of the recent annual conference of the Ontario Home Builders' Association was the address by Premier Dalton McGuinty, who surprised us with his candour in telling the story of when he and his wife Terri bought their first home. Last month, more than 100 members of our association travelled to New York City for a high-rise housing study tour. We were prepared to be wowed by the architecture, design and marketing one would expect given the auspicious destination. And wowed we were, although not necessarily in the ways we had anticipated. Our current federal government made headlines this week with the floating of a trial balloon on income splitting. Our neutral, non-partisan association has no position on income splitting, but I would hazard a guess that a lot of our members, and even more would-be home buyers, would connect the dots between increasing net incomes and the chance to share in the Canadian dream of homeownership. This week's municipal election results witnessed everything from a modest turnover to a sea change in the composition of local councils throughout the Greater Toronto Area. What do the results mean from the standpoint of the land development, home building and professional renovation sectors in the GTA? What do they mean for would-be home buyers in the GTA? This article discusses the new reduction in GST and transitional rebates for newly-constructed homes.December 16 - Habitat dedication a 'moving' event December 9 - Making Dreams a Reality In Ontario - Planning Wisely for the Millions to Come December 2 - Made in Manhattan November 25 - Connecting the dots on housing affordability November 18 - You can't beat city hall
